As a result, this account will go back to posting weekly movie recommendations like we did over the summer. RECOMMENDATION: Stephen King's sole directorial effort, MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (1986). When machines come to life and start killing, a group of people trapped in a gas station must survive murderous vehicles and appliances with minds of their own. This movie has everything; homicidal 18 wheelers! Aggressive ice cream trucks! Lisa Simpson! Stephen pulled out all the stops during his spin in the director's chair, and it must be seen to be believed. THIS FRIDAY: Coincidentally, CCC will also be screening a Stephen King movie from the 1980s. Baker will be holding a discussion on how the themes of the film reflect on modern life, the film's place in the Stephen King oeuvre, and how it fits (and doesn't fit) within the King-o-verse.
